School of Rock – Day 12 – Collaboration and Growth- Part 2

SUMMARY

I broke down Tool and System of a Down’s music. I also practice and can thoroughly play Rotten Apple by Alice in Chains on the bass.

LEADERSHIP ACTIVITY

  • Record the verse of Sweating Bullets

PRACTICE ROOM (GUITAR LESSONS)

  • I need to work on pinky use and speed of movement up and down the strings
  • I need to include more rhythm and time practices

CLASSROOM (THEORY & ANALYSIS)

  • Tool uses very indirect and often miss interpreted lyrics to show varying ideas
  • Polyrhythms are commonly used by the drummer Danny Carey
  • Very Armenian influenced in their sound
  • Lyrics are often written about political issues and war

LAB (THEORY PRACTICED)

  • Drums play a high and low not pattern
  • The hi hat fills the plainer spaces
  • Crash and variation is used as a fill to the next part

OUTSIDE (CREATIVITY & THE BRAIN)

  • I spent the walk deciphering the lyrics to Rotten Apple by Alice in Chains
    • The song could be referring to a biblical idea of Adam and Eve
    • The song could also be referring to Layne Staley’s drug use and losing many thing in his life due to addiction

STUDIO (SONGWRITING)

  • listened to Jim talk about game design and reputation in smaller industries

CONTROL ROOM (RECORDING & MIXING)

  • Practiced Rotten Apple on the Bass
